The BA (1st Bologna cycle) in Communication Sciences is a cooperation between the Arts, Economy, Engineering and Letters Faculty of Universidade do Porto. So, besides humanistics, students are also taught about information and communication technologies and design.
After four semesters of joint formation, students have to choose one area of specialization for the last year:
- Journalism
- Public Relations
- Multimedia
There is a wide variety of job opportunities: journalism (press, tv, online, radio), communication and marketing offices and educational software or multimedia solutions companies.
The BA is very practical, encouraging the relation between the work students develop and the whole University and external companies.
- MA in Communication Sciences | Mestrado em Ciências da Comunicação
The MA (2nd Bologna cycle) in Communication Sciences has three areas of specialization: Political Communication, Culture, Heritage and Sciences, and Media and Journalism Studies. Like the BA program, besides humanistics, MA students are also taught about information and communication technologies and design.
After two semesters of joint formation, students must choose one of the mentioned areas of specialization. After one semester of classes, they have two choices: either write a theoric work or work in a company (practical formation).

After two semesters of joint formation, students must opt between a research piece (dissertation thesis) or work in a company (job training).

With 69 research units, the University is responsible for over 20% of the Portuguese articles indexed each year in the ISI Web of Science.
Nearly half of its research units were classified as “Excellent” or “Very Good” by the latest international evaluations. In fact, the University of Porto has some of the most productive and internationally renowned Portuguese R&D centres.
In the last years, the University has been focusing in providing greater economic value to its scientific production and recent partnerships with the Portuguese industry leaders have already resulted in several innovations with proven success in the national and international markets.
